HOW? WITH A SUSTAINABLE AND MULTIFUNCTIONAL APPROACH
Addressing the Jacobus Smart Technologies business plan competition (in Germany) required assembly of a cross-disciplinary team (based in my home university in Florida) I hadn’t yet worked in for such a competition before.
We decided to tackle the parking problem associated to the waste of time, energy and gas while looking for free spaces in open-air lots.
Finding the most talented chemical engineering & business students I could, we assembled a team that pitched a more environmentally-friendly solution to the recent wave of solar power-collecting parking structures sweeping Europe.

This solution was centered around the innovative use of piezoelectric cells, which creates electricity through the use of pressure-sensitive cells.

Responsible for the creative side (poster, pitch design, script, service design), I contributed to the team with my experience focusing on human interactions by including an alternative way of providing advertising space to this new technology while staying within budget.
I found that an unfamiliarity in chemical engineering didn’t stop me from contributing to the team – knowledge of the human element was just as important a part of our qualifying pitch.
